Mesothelioma is sometimes called Malignant Mesothelioma which is a very rare type of cancer. I know that we are all familiar with the popular, most dangerous carcinogen (cancer causing material in tobacco) or 3,4-benzpyrine. But in this case, mesothelioma is developed from the transformed cells originating in the protective lining (mesothelium) that protects the internal organs of your body. Although, mesothelioma has nothing to do with smoking tobacco (that causes cancer), but it will be better that you stop or reduce the excessive smoking of tobacco as it increases your chances of experiencing other cancers.

Anatomically, mesothelioma develops at the internal chest wall and outer lining of the lungs (pleural), the abdominal cavity (peritoneum), the sac that surrounds testis (tunica vaginalis) or the sac that surrounds the human heart (pericardium).

Symptoms Of Mesothelioma

The presence of this cancer is indicated by by a sudden weight loss, pleural effusion (the fluid between your chest wall and the lung) which leads to shortness of breath and coughing. Although there are different types of mesothelioma, depending on the part or organ of the body.

Types And Symptoms

>>>Peritoneal Mesothelioma: cachexia, pain due to a build up of the fluid in your abdominal cavity (ascite), weight loss, abdominal swelling, abnormalities in blood clotting, fever, bowel obstruction, anemia. And in a more severe case where it has spread to other parts of the body, the symptoms are swelling of your face or neck, pain and difficulty in swallowing.

>>>Pleura Mesothelioma: anemia or fatigue, chest wall pain, shortness of breath due to pleural effusion, hemoptysis or blood in your sputum. And in most severe cases, the patient may develop collapse of the lungs or pneumothorax, or have many tumor masses.

Causes Of Malignant Mesothelioma

The above happens to be the most dangerous of all its kinds. It is difficult to notice its presence as its symptoms are similar to the symptoms of the other diseases. It is caused by exposure to

ASBESTOS

and it does not manifest immediately, but until 30-40 years after exposure to asbestos. The risk is high in populations living near the naturally occurring asbestos. Although, in the early 1940s, millions of Americans were exposed to asbestos, but it is more severe in countries where naturally occurring asbestos are found, such as Turkey and in the central Cappadocia.

Treatment Of Mesothelioma

The mesothelioma treatment has not been made known as it is uncommon. At present, a number of therapies are carried out to help kill the cancerous cells. And there are three (3) general and common therapies for mesothelioma treatments: (1)Radiation therapy (2)Surgery (3)Chemotherapy.

Please don't quote me wrong when I said there are 3 general therapies for mesothelioma. There are many more therapies depending on the details of the diagnosis. But the above are the commonly used therapies.

Well, at present, many researches are been made to proffer solution to mesothelioma, but there has been no report on the latest development. Anyway, we look forward to the day the cure for mesothelioma will be discovered. But for the mean time, beware of ASBESTOS inhalation!!!
